The 12 Quotes

While many good speakers, scholars, and intellects are barred from public speech, I simply cannot believe what I have seen yesterday. A speaker gave a speech in the CIVP workshop today to represent the 1 Malaysia label on behalf of the Prime Ministers Office. I will not name this man as my target audience of this post are those who know who he is. Just to share with you my thoughts, I had full confidence of the 1Malaysia campaign until yesterday. My reputation is no where near a success and some might say I do not deserve to speak out but I can’t hold back my thoughts on this. My comment on his speech... rhetoric but ultimately embarrassing!
Here are the top 12 quotes from the talk that we should NOT accept:

12.
“Obama anak hamba menjadi President” –Obama descendant of slaves is now President.
Obama’s parents nor his ancestor were slaves.

11.
“Mana ada bangsa Cina diberi pengiktirafan di dunia. Only one in the world!” –
- No other nation has acknowledged the Chinese as a race.
Many other nations with huge Chinese population has definitely acknowledge them as a
race, or even better has clouded their racial identity to allow them to unite with other
citizens.

10.
“Si-fulan indon islam masuk kristian. Boleh! Jika si-fulan melayu islam masuk kristian. Tak Boleh! Ini adalah ketuanan Melayu”
- In brief, only Malay Muslims are not allowed to convert out of their religion.
Shows how misleading Malay supremacy really is and the weakness in religious authority in Malaysia.

9.
“Anak saya grad jugak. Mungkin lebih pandai daripada saudara-saudara. Jangan anggap saudara-saudara bijak sangat!”
- My son’s a University graduate. So don’t think that you are too smart!
I will not dwell on this. He clearly embarrassed himself and his son.

8.
“Kamu mesti bijaksana. Kalau tak tahu jangan cakap X 4. Duduk, baca dulu. Belajar”
- You must embrace wisdom. If you don’t know don’t speak X4. Sit, study and learn.
He lost my vote (if he needs any). He belittled the audience. How silly.

7.
“Ada juga penyamun yang baik. Ada juga ulama’ yang tak betul. Yang menetapkan siapa masuk syurga dan neraka, itu tidak betul. Tak betul”
- There are good burglars and sinister scholars. Scholars who decide who goes to heaven and hell are wrong!
This quote is an unoriginal, schematic quote used by many Barisan politicians to aim at PAS. This plays no relevance whatsoever to the topic.

6.
“Jangan kita bodoh dua kali. Biar bodoh sekali, buat pengajaran kepada semua”
- Don’t be stupid twice. Only once. As a lesson.
This man has done it more than twice within the hour!

5.
"Najib darjah 6 dah jadi pegawai khas kepada Perdana Menteri. Kau ingat senang?! Senang buatlah!”
- Najib became a special officer to the Prime Minister at the age of 12. You think its easy?! Go ahead and try!
Najib played his privileges to his advantage. True. However the way he said it has disgrace Najib’s position and showed as though he is lucky to be there and not hardworking.

4.
“Saudara maki balik kerajaan! Bloody fool! Betul atau tidak?! Maki hamun kerajaan”
- How dare you criticize the government! Bloody fool!
Utterly ridiculous.

3.
“Alhamdulillah, kita boleh kata prasarana Negara setanding dengan Negara maju”
- Thank God, we can say that our infrastructure and facilities are on par with other developed nations.
Wrong again. We are left far behind in terms of public transport, broadband connectivity. Clear fact. This guy has no idea about the western developed countries.

2.
“Negara kita Berjaya. Rakyat Negara Cina yang miskin masih miskin. Sampai sanggup gadai body di Kuala Lumpur. Orang india dari India dating cari makan di Malaysia. Hari ini rakyat Malaysia pelbagai kaum tidak mencari makan di India dan tidak di Cina.” Later he said;
“Saya terjumpa seorang Cina Johor Bahru di Negara Cina”
- Malaysian citizens of all races do not seek jobs in China or India. China workers come to Malaysia as prostitutes and Indians from India come to seek jobs in Malaysia. Malaysians of all races do not go to China or India to look for jobs.
- I met a Chinese Johorian in a market in China.
I have known so many Malaysians who seek jobs in China, India, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and do not come back to Malaysia. If this guy is unaware of brain drain, then this country is in danger!!!

2.(tie)
“Anak muda sekarang dikelamun dengan budaya blog, menghina kerajaan” later he said;
“Sekarang tidak banyak blog-blog yang sempit dibandingkan dahulu”
- The youth now are polluted with the blog culture, insulting the government.
- Now there are not many blogs aimed towards the government.
Blog and net documentation is the future. Wake up!

1.
“Handphone ini adalah contoh kemajuan yang dibawa oleh bekas Perdana Menteri kita, Tun Dr. Mahathir!!”
- The handphone is an example of the technology brought by the previous Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir!!
- Handphones, like any other technology was widespread in other countries first and later penetrated the Malaysian market. The prime minister does not decide to bring in handphones.

If this guy is still around, then 1Malaysia is in trouble. I am a highly irresponsible citizen if I were to NOT blog about this. My advice to other participants of the workshop, these people exist in Malaysia and some such as this speaker are powerful. So let’s act smart. We know what’s right and wrong and what’s smart and stupid. Let’s not look for trouble before we reach a high enough position to change the country. Focus on ourselves and our success before we topple these bad seeds.

Market Visit (Ikano Power Center)

Market Visit: IKANO Power Centre, Damansara
Title: Corporate/Market Visits to Ikano
Group Members: Muhamad Tarmizi bin Abd Rahim
Lim Min Siang
Nur Sai’I binti Aznan
Facilitator Assisting: Dr. Greg, Ms. Shafiya and Ms. Sharlene

PART ONE

a) Executive Summary

On 5th Disember 2009, we have a market visit at Ikano. Our task is finding products that have a high potential to enter the global market. After a few survey, we decided to choose ‘Air Vitamin’ which is under health category. The product’s market is wide because this product is suitable for all range of age.

b) Product Choice

The Product was attracted to us just by looking at its name. The product was newly introduced to the market and named “Air Vitamin”. MGT Air Vitamin (M) Sdn. Bhd., a Malaysian base company which launched this product that has great market potential. The choice of product is decided mainly because the device is totally Malaysian made product which helps to improve the body immune system by just breathing by the air product by this device.

c) Detailed of the product

MGT Air Vitamin® G-10 is a medical device (approved by the Ministry of Health, Malaysia), to protect our body immunity from reduce, due to virus, bacteria, fungi, toxin & others microorganism surrounding us. It helps and works as our “Body Immune System” externally to protect us against viral & bacterial infection, etc. It is an ideal "partner" for our 'Body Immune System' to work hand in hand in order to let our body to have enough time for a total rest and "charge up" our Body Immune System to its "maximum level" It is a necessity product particularly for this modern generation in order to maintain our healthy, comfortable, and happier lifestyle.
The market segmentation for the product is to all range of people within the age, status or education. It is because the product is new so the market segmentation is now only focus on the higher class people who can buy this product. After the few coming month, the other will tend to buy this product.

d) Proposed Strategy for Global Launch
According to the manager that we interview, he said that this is the first non-eating vitamin product in the world. So, this product has a high potential in order to enter global business. This company should do a market research for the global which they can make a target, for example, “one home, one air vitamin”. This is because this product is suitable for all range of age.
The strategy of marketing can be expanding within not only advertisement in the newspaper but in the television as well. The product also can be placed in the hypermarket and they can build are warehouse due to the increased of product. They can also collect data from their customer in Malaysia and analyze it as a proof for the global customer in order to gain customer’s trust for their product. Since this product has been used in Istana Negara, they can use this opportunity to advertise how well their product is.

e) Conclusion
These market visits are quit challenge in order to find the person that agree to cooperate with us. It’s a valuable experience because we have an experience to build self confident with courage from group members and at the same time we try to apply the skill that we have learn such as how to approach people, negotiation and so on. We also have a chance to know more about Ikano which is most of the shop at Ikano are from Singapore.

PART TWO

The task was carried by the effort of three members including Nur, Mizi and Lim working hard to gather the information required. Fortunately, Mizi who acts as “walking encyclopedia of Malaysia Products” direct us to the correct outlet which helps to save lot of time. Remarkably, thanks to the politeness of Nur during the interview session, the company or outlet’s manager was actually very excited and helpful in order for us to complete the assignment.
Never forget, Lim who recorded every details and information accurately and trigger more question during the interview did contribute to the overall progression. Before we start searching for the correct target outlet, we have discussed and compromised to look for product provider instead of service. Hence, with well planned and strategic, we were starting from furniture store, moving to musical instrument and finally reached “Air Vitamin”. With humble and proper courtesy, we approach the entire interview easily and the task was divided among three of us according to the informative, diplomatic and recording ability. This is how the work complete successfully with all of us achieved synergy.

Corporate Visit (Axiata)

Last Saturday, I and my group (PLATO) have been given change to interview 4 great people in corporate world. They are En Zulkifli Hitam (Ex Senior VP Maybank),En M.Zaki (Director Corp. Affairs-United Engineers Malaysia Bhd), Datin Badrunisa (Director of HR Axiata) and Ms Aminah Kobil (MD of Cherisher Consulting).

My first guest that I interview is Datin Badrunisa. She is a director of HR Axiata. Axiata is the Malaysian company who invest to the telecommunication around the glob. In Malaysia we knew them as Celcom. We divided the question that we want to ask. First we ask about the resume and the process of real interview.

Datin told us that the CV or resume have come with goal and objective or in much easier term why we apply for the job. we have to included all our experience from school until now and don’t forget to sort it from old to latest. Besides that the cover letter must catch the eye of the reader.

After that she explains the process of interview itself. She mentions early that Axiata didn’t take fresh graduate. Because of that she share his experience when she at Shell. There are several step of interview until we got the job. The CV is been process first to determine our qualification and next they will called us (phone interview). But the phone interview not so popular and the last cut is in the interview face to face with the executive there. If we pass the interview, there will be one more interview at the assessment center in order we have to prove ourselves in that center.

A part from that she said that we cannot demand anything from the company and she also give the do and don’t when in the interview.

Leader and Environment

Honestly, I feel bored in the 1st half of the talk by Datuk Husni. This is because the fact and figure that he shown but it not last longer. The point that I heard is we have to be the leader that change the environment not the environment change the leader....

I want to give my opinion about this..
yeah..to just talk about it just easy but to do it we have to consider many things. In term of making decision, we have to consider many thing. Not just 'mine' factor. Just the same situation in my U with my club.. Sometimes I have the authority to change the environment but the other factor stop me to do it. its always about humanity vs ethic..
for an example, to my friend who has seen 2012, the humanity factor is are our decision not tell the people that they will vanish and for the ethic we have to do just the protocol need us to do; if not all the human kind will vanish..

There is one question or maybe changeless that singing around my head after the talk. what are we need to do to be a leader that can change the environment and in the same time not allowed the environment change the leader?? nowadays. many leader has lost to the environment in term to build the better nation. Just like Abdullah, have to resign because of the stress of other parties. Other example that happen outside Malaysia is Bill Clinton and Tony Blair. A great leader who have to resign because the environment factor force them to do it.

So I hope, my friend and I will more develop thru the process developing us to be a great leader. - _-‘’

The Temuan: One Study about Development and Changing a Way of Thinking.

Title: The Temuan: One Study about Development and Changing a Way of Thinking.

Author: Muhamad Tarmizi bin Abd Rahim

Desasiswa:Plato

Team Leader: Tn Hj Lokman bin Awang

Facilitator Assisting: Tn Hj Yahya bin Awang

Introduction

The Temuan are the original Malay (Malay Proto). They live in the Selangor, Melaka, Pahang, Negeri Sembilan and Johor. The Temuan who live in Negeri Sembilan practice adat pepatih and not much different with another Temuan from other state.

Temuan means ‘bertemu dengan orang Melayu’ or meet with other Malay people. Temuan biggest village is located at Kg Bukit Payung in Alor Gajah, Melaka. It is consist 420 people who live in this village. 80 % of them are Christian, 20% Musalim and other has no religion (animisms). The person who takes tare the village called Tok Batin. Tok Batin have two assistant.

We are from CIVP conducting visiting and a field trip to this village. We have to study the angle about the community of Temuan. We can freely choose our angle in term of discussing the community behavior with leadership.

Methodology

The methodology that we use is qualitative. The qualitative method that we are using is interviewing, corroboration, observation, examine document, record also historical artifact. In the day before, we are given short briefing about the technique. There are step in interviewing. There are;

• Introduction - We are supposed to give a short but informative introduction about my self and my team. This is because to give an info to the interviewee.
• Build the rapport - This is important in term to give them comfortable with us. When the rapport is build, the Temuan will share their experience sincerely.
• Obtain the detailed info - In term of collecting the validating data, we have asked the effective question to the Temuan in term of to get the detailed info. The question have to cover all the area and we must check the understanding them on the question. If possible ask the further question to the Temuan and use the paraphrase technique. It is because we want to validate the information that we get.
• Conclude the interview - We have to summarize the main point and we must confirm future arrangement (if available). Before the end of the interview we must clarify the point and ask if there are any points that they want to add. And must remember to say THANK YOU!!

The next technique is corroboration. This happen when an opinion is supported by another verbal account by and independent or reliable source. In term of doing that there are several things that are we suppose to do;

• We must see that their point is correlation with their environment, people around them and other.
• We must alert with their surroundings.
• We must focus with their environment.

The most technique is observation. This is a very important technique because we can gain more point within our observation. With observation we can see things that they are shy or did not want to share. In observing, sometimes we can validate the ambiguous things and matter.

The last technique is examining document, record also historical artifact. We first collect the document, record or artifact that we are going to examine. In this technique, we usually take some time to do it. But because in this field trip, we only take several pictures and the handout that Tuan Hj Lokman gave to us.

Setting

This community project field was set up by CIVP in order to all the participants to get exposure as well as knowledge of our country historical and cultural context. The participants were gathered in front of the Clubhouse Country Heights, Kajang as early as 7.00 am after they finished their breakfast. Two buses were provided for the participants according to their group task either the Temuan or Portuguese settlement. After the quick briefing about the tour, all the participants go to the settlement .Only one constrain that I think it is maybe disturb me all the time. It is the dog; I surprised to see so many dogs in the village.

Finding

In this field study, I realized one thing or angles that are can be described in this report. With this angle I will provide evidence and lesson I learnt.

Description of the angle

I want to discuss about the changing and development of the way of thinking in the Temuan family. It is means that they did not only live in the circle of poverty. They manage to get out of the chrysalis and able to develop like other people. They have prove that if one family is live in poverty, it is did not mean that the child of the family will live in the same condition as well. This is prove when I doing my filed trip to Temuan people.

In this field trip, my team and I visiting two houses with the capacity three families in it. It consists three generation of family. The descriptions of the generations are:

• First generation - Doi and Senah with 14 children. The main job that are they doing rubber tapping with some farming. In two hundred ringgit a month they manage to raised their children until they get married.
• Second generation – Nur is the Doi and Senah oldest daughter. She married to the Opi in the age 16 years old. They have 6 daughters and one of them is married. The youngest is 8 years old.
• Third generation - while Nasalina is married to the Wong who is not the Temuan or the other trible. They are married using the Malay culture. You can clarify what I say in the evidence section.

There is a differences of mindset among the three generation about improving themselves and not live in the circle of poverty. The first generation did not care and did think about to improving themselves. It is means they are live happily in their comfort zone. They only hope for government to give them help and they also did not care if the government did not give any help in term of support the school child and others. Such example, when we ask question like to probe why Doi did not want to develop himself and he is still avoiding to answers the question like that.

This is different with the second generations that are seriously wanted to develop themselves. They properly send their children to the school and they know the important of the knowledge however their first daughter only complete until form three. This is an achievement to the family and the other family members now still continue their study.

Now we see the differences between the socio-economy status between the first and the second generation;

First Generation

Wooden house and small
They has no transportation
Believe in shaman (tok batin)
Did not have religion
Income RM 200/month
Only have rubber estate

Second Generation

House made from brick
Got transportation (motor)
Did not believe in shaman. When sick go to the hospital
Have religion (Buddhist)
Income RM 1000/month
Have rubber estate, banana farm

The third generations are better than the second generation. There more develop in term of improve themselves. They did not scare to get know and get well with other people from other race. As the example, Nasalina is married to the Wong who is Chinese. Nasalina is did not stay with her parent and did not hesitate to learn another language except Malay and Temuan dialect.

Now once again we see the differences between the socio-economy status between the second and third generation.

Second Generation
House made from brick
Got transportation (motor)
Have rubber estate, banana farm
Traditional dress

Third Generation

House at Masjid Tanah
Got transportation (car)
Open a restaurant
Modern dress

Evidence

The evidence that I take and learn are book and article that are given.

Lesson Learn

From my description of angle, I discuss about development and changing the way of thinking in Temuan family. I choose this angle because I can see what changing inside their mind after seeing the three families. They have a set of different mindset that is they develop in term of opportunity and changes that the government made. The older generation has the mindset quit close compare to the younger generation.

It is means that the younger generation is more develop and tend to learn more from the older generation. It is also means that the younger generation is better than the older generation. I give you an example, the computer or the electronic devices will learn fast by the younger generation compare to the older one.

This is because more knowledge and technology will be developing and will be learn by the younger generation. A part from that the younger generation is luckier and more expose to this certain knowledge.

In term of leadership content, I see this as challenge to build a better Malaysia. This is because the younger generation is actually improving the nation. They have better idea and maybe better value to add on. However we cannot deny the contribution of older generation. Because of that we have to more put effort to develop and strengthen the younger generation, so that they can be improving the country instead destroy it with the influence of the Western.

In a conclusion, I realize that anyone have potential to develop and changing their mindset that are control their lifestyle and will lead them to out from poverty or some other difficulty.

Inference

Regarding this field trip, I can self audit myself. This is because the condition of the place that is in the end of the jungle with a few facilities. In my journey today, I realized many things. The things are;
• Do not judge a book by its cover.
• If we are in difficulty, there are people more difficult than us.
• Education is important in term of changing life.
• Healthy environment make youngster better.
• In modern world, there still people out there is not effect with the modernization.

One Malaysia

I'm just wondering what is One Malaysia when I heard about it. It was when Najib became prime minister...
I thought it just only his propaganda. Just same as Dr M with Vision 2020 and Abdullah with Islam Hadhari.
After that everyone uses tag line Satu Malaysia either in mass media or in the UTM. I really distracted with this One Malaysia. I feel our country did not need anymore this kind of 'vision'. We have the Vision 2020 and we have to achieve that first after we go though anything else.

I really excited when I discover today talk is about One Malaysia. I hope the speaker can give a beneficial info about One Malaysia. However, its really disappointing talk just like everyone know. I just didn't understand why he doing such a manner??

After the talk, I just realized one thing. If we didn't have the knowledge to support our idea or to convince people. We have to be humble and don't force people to accept what are we talking about??

That was a very bad attitude. But I really respect his spirit. The spirit that everyone have to learn. Also I have to learn to speak like that. It is very convincing to everyone who didn't have the knowledge

I hope for better tomorrow....-_-''

The Malay Dilemma

It's a good book because it narrating what happen to the Malay after independence until the tragedy of 13 May 1969 happen. The idea of Tun Mahathir still can be acceptance in this modern time.

why I choose this book? there is an simple answer; basically I have read this book in Malay and I want to challenge my self to read this book in English...

I think I don't want to write much about this book because I didn't want to reveal out the interesting content of this book. You have to wait until I have finish read the book and I will conclude everything.

TQ

What constitute the examplary Malaysian leader??

In my point of view, there are two type leaders in Malaysia; be born to be leader and be trained to be leader. These matters are related to condition of Malaysia who implements democracy and monarchy at the same time. This are called parliament democracy. As a result, two type of leader become and describe the Malaysia leader.

I will explain about leader that are be born first. The obvious example is the sultan and king at all state in Malaysia. It’s begin hundred years ago until now, sultan are the leader in his state. But the power of a king now is limited because the parliamentary democracy. This type of leader make the Malaysia unique and well known.

In the second context of leader, this leader comes after war. When citizen given change to be a leader by joining the politic. In that time, the political party was the biggest source of creating leader. They are given change fairly to lead. Who are outstanding, well spoken and can influence people will be a great leader. This type of leader struggle hard to become a great one. As example, Dr Mahathir Mohamad, the ex-prime minister, he start from basic and who know someday he will become a great leader in the Malaysian and well known in the world.

The leader that are be born or learned make exemplary of Malaysia leader. It is always become unique because the culture and value that are added to this two type of leader. In old time, which is after independence the Malaya leader are more sincere to lead and rule this country. One vision that are share by everyone; and everyone determined to establish the vision. But now, this situation is slowly disappeared and they become leader for their own benefits.

As a conclusion, these two elements that are constitute Malaysian leader. Because of this we have to protect three elements so Malaysian will become a great and successful country at all time. We have to eliminate the unnecessary sources that are wanted to create chaos in this country.
